Growth Hormone &
        Improving Your Health

Tyler Parr has a site that describes an inexpensive technique to allow you to elevate your own internal output of growth hormone to a young adult level.
You can make up this mixture of two compounds, from over the counter chemicals available at most large health food stores at a cost of less than $1/day. Below is his theory on minimizing both DNA damage and unneeded cell divisions.

GH & Improving Your Health: Protection The benefit of increased protein synthesis that is stimulated by a maintenance of elevated GH (young adult levels maintained indefinitely) minimizes the cell decline process of the Managed Decline period, but it also stimulates unnecessary cell division in cells that can divide. This optional, nutritionally driven cell division is responsible for a large fraction of total human cancers. The greater the number of optional cell divisions in adult life, the greater is our risk of developing cancer. We can use some of the normal components of our diet that are already offering some protection from this process, but targeting them to a time period 4- 6 hours after the major meal to minimize these unnecessary nutritionally driven cell divisions.

These protective compounds inhibit both division and metabolic rate as well as protein synthesis, thus, we have a rich protein synthesis period followed by protective inhibition.

Nutritionally Driven 'Unnecessary' Cell Divisions Increase Our Cancer Risk

We need the protein synthesis stimulation of GH and with increased age become increasingly vulnerable to the cancer promoting effects of GH stimulation of cell division. Cancer creation requires both mutations (permanent DNA damage) and cell divisions. Normal cells have rigid controls that prevent uncontrolled divisions, cancer cells have lost these. We cannot completely avoid DNA damage with age, but we can minimize both DNA damage and unneeded cell divisions. We can also inhibit and sometimes outright kill abnormal cells such as cancers. We can do these things and get sufficient protein synthesis stimulation from GH.

Some cell divisions in our bodies must occur (skin and blood cell replacement, etc. - even while we are starving), while others are largely optional. These 'optional' divisions are largely caused by abundant nutrition (well or overfed) and sufficient insulin and GH. A large percentage of lethal human cancers arise from these 'optional' sources. These are the cell divisions our technique minimizes, not the required ones.

These optional, nutritionally driven cell divisions require a continuous minimal 6-8 hour period at both high nutrition and stimulation by the growth factors that arise from GH stimulation (Reference 7). Any interruption of this continuous stimulation will stop the movement to division without harming normal cells. The cell division process cannot be restarted again until it gets another continuous 6-8 hour period of high nutrition and growth factors arising from sufficient GH. The early 0-6 hour period of this nutritionally driven process is similar in both dividing and non-dividing cells, it mainly involves GH (via downstream hormone 'IGF-1' levels) and Insulin driven high levels of normal protein synthesis. Later events (after 6-8 hours) commit the cells( permitted to divide) to a mandatory division, which it must go through or die. So we have a technique to allow 3-4 or even 5-6 hours of high protein synthesis and then 'end the party' so that cells are not fated to undergo optional divisions. Thus, both non-dividing and division capable cells have gained much in terms of protein synthesis, but the division capable cells do not go on to divide due to this nutritional stimulation of growth factors. Without divisions to 'promote' it, cancer doesn't happen.

Compounds in Our Normal Diet Protect Us

At 4 to 6 hours after a large meal we consume a small amount of plant extract compounds that normally occur in your diet, but more than you normally get in your diet. These plant extract compounds are components of the plant foods in your normal diet, and are sold in health food stores everywhere. It is important to get an appropriate amount of these particular compounds, as too much will make you slow down and feel tired and too little will fail to inhibit cell divisions. These compounds are called biological polyphenols which include the class of bioflavonoids ( References 8,9,10,11,12) . The highest concentrations of these occur in grains, vegetables, and tea (Reference 13) . They stop cells from proceeding to this commitment to divide by inhibiting a group of cellular signaling molecules called tyrosine kinases (Reference 14). We are exposed to about 1 gram/day of polyphenols ( & @ 23 milligrams (mg) of bioflavonoids) in our normal diet compared to the 500 milligrams extra that we suggest to consume some 4-6 hours after the largest meal of the day. You do not take it at the meal because it would shut down the party before you have a rich protein synthesis period, but wait till this is accomplished and then block divisions.

Not only do these compounds repress unneeded divisions, but they are also potent antioxidants that also greatly depress the occurrence and thus damage done by this oxidative process that is damaging our proteins (Reference 15).

We cannot get rid of all of these oxidative events, because they are side products of our processes of energy production and detoxification systems. By the process of decreasing both the production and the damage done by these oxidative events, we are also altering the ratio of protein synthesis to oxidative damage in a positive way - on top of increasing our overall protein synthesis by enhanced GH levels. I have found that this does not interfere with an active life with considerable vigorous physical exercise. (I routinely burn 500-1000 Kcal in vigorous exercise each day.)

A delightful further action of some of these polyphenols (including bioflavonoids) is that some of them actually kill a wide variety of cancers (Reference 8,16). They do this at concentrations within the levels we are suggesting, by forcing the cancer cells to commit 'suicide' because cancer cells can't stop the division process like normal cells can. This is part of the reason they are cancers, cancers are 'locked in' to continuing divisions.

Naturally, I am not suggesting treatment of cancer by this technique, although, this is being explored by the medical research community. I am a research scientist, not a medical doctor, I cannot and do not suggest any treatments for medical conditions, but I do know many individuals who are using powerful bioflavonoid compounds like quercetin to augment their normal cancer therapies.

Nature's Trade-Off and How Humans Can 'Tilt' the Playing Field for A Better Trade-Off

Now you know that our healthy maintenance is involved in this trade-off of health maintaining protein synthesis rates and the health injuring free radical production that combines with cell divisions that promote cancer with increased age.

YOU MUST USE THESE POLYPHENOL OR BIOFLAVONOID PROTECTIONS TO LOWER YOUR RISK OF CANCER. THE APPROPRIATE AMOUNT OF INCREASED GROWTH HORMONE ALONE WILL GIVE YOU ROBUST HEALTH, BUT WILL ALSO INCREASE YOUR CHANCES OF CANCER - ESPECIALLY WITH GREATER AGE. DON'T USE THIS TECHNIQUE UNLESS YOU ACCEPT THIS DUAL PROCESS.

We did not arrange this evolutionary linking of necessary protein synthesis for maintenance and concomitant cell division with its greater chances of cancer with age; evolutionary selection of fitness over earlier millions of years was less concerned with our long life than maximizing our function until we reproduce. After reproduction, evolutionary selection is not much involved. Thus we cannot just depend upon "nature's way", instead, we can tilt 'her' system in our favor. Incidentally, taking these polyphenols or bioflavonoids does not cancel your need to have a diet very rich in fresh fruits and vegetables while low in fat and simple sugars. We are just increasing our protection while maintaining a sufficient level of GH and thus protein synthesis to slow (actually to reverse!) the Managed Decline process.
