This new knowledge of stopping the cause of cavities is actually quite simple. One just needs to lower the acid production within the mouth and take advantage of the natural calcium and phosphorus deposition that can take place when conditions are right. Gum tissue problems also go away at the same time since the right conditions necessary to heal cavities also cause the gums to be perfectly healthy. Many people who have previously been plagued with gum problems can kiss their gum surgeon good-bye forever. When proper conditions are created the gum tissue heals, no longer needing gum surgery or other treatment by dentists. As the gum tissue heals it also re-attaches and can grow back over areas of severe recession. The underlying bone also grows back so teeth that are severely loosened can be made to tighten up and become firm and healthy again. It's all a matter of giving the body a chance to rejuvenate itself.
This can be done through lowering the acid production in the mouth thereby eliminating the acid and toxins that cause all of the problems.
In order to accomplish this seeming miracle one must first understand the cause of the problem. If people are to become involved in eliminating a disease process within their bodies, they must understand the situation. Ignorance of the actual situation makes it impossible to be a part of the solution. This applies to the process of solving any other human problems as well.
Cavities and gum problems are caused by acid and toxins trapped in and around the teeth and gums. These acids and toxins are produced by harmful bacteria along with residue of various foods that we eat. It's very important that we have excellent nutrition to begin with...a very wholesome diet containing all of the necessary nutrients, vitamins, and minerals. Then we must set out on a program to get rid of the harmful bacteria that cause all of the problems. The methods necessary to do this vary from person to person depending on age and prior conditions.
The self-help methods necessary to accomplish a healthful oral ecology is an individual matter just like no two people's needs are the same to control high blood pressure or sugar diabetes. In most cases blood pressure problems and diabetes can be controlled without medications. Exercise and diet are the self-help methods that control these problems in most cases; much like Oramedics self-help methods control and/or eliminate cavities and gum problems (infection).
For those individuals who already have cavities and gum problems, these problems can be eliminated or largely reduced through self-help (remineralization and gum rejuvenation). The remaining severe problems...if any may require clinical care by a dentist. This is unfortunate but understandable, as many people have never been informed by their dentist as to "how" to stop the cause of cavities and gum problems...nor has any dentist suggested how to heal cavities and gum problems.
If such clinical treatment is a necessity then a highly competent caring dentist may be necessary. Most people attempt to find a good dentist by asking friends and relatives. This is a risky business because it's based on trial and error. Sometimes it works but not often. Generally it results in dealing with a dentist who:
- Doesn't listen to your problems.
- Seems to always be too busy to explain your needs.
- Goes ahead with some treatment without explaining why you need it or at best offers thin excuses that are either too technical to understand or even unrelated to the problem.
- Seldom explains the cost until after the treatment is done which is of course too late for the person to express his or her feeling regarding the treatment and how they can pay for it.
- When questioned about procedures or fees often becomes defensive, taking the attitude that: "l'm the doctor and I know what's good for you so don't bother me with 'stupid questions."
- Frequently proceeds without thorough diagnostic steps, therefore often performing unneeded treatment for which you must pay for anyway...just because it's been done.
- Seldom if ever takes into consideration that you experience real fear of needles, drilling, cutting gums, etc.
- Usually offers no information as to the cause of your problems (disease).
- Tends to be rather arrogant in general and has assistants who are not much better...sometimes worse.
- Almost never offers alternatives which will help stop new problems from occurring...instead just more drill, fill, and bill.
Not a pleasant picture, right?
But now there's New Hope...a small percentage of dentists (maybe one in a hundred) really care about people. They offer only the highest quality possible, and at reasonable fees.
These unique dentists are hard to find...but not impossible.
The People's Dental Association is building a list of these rare individuals who will serve you well. They will not only treat you in an honest fashion but they also stand behind their work. If you have problems following their treatment, they want to know about it...and they will take whatever steps are necessary to correct the problems. (God willing, as we all know certain circumstances can occur that no human being no matter how qualified can solve).
The People's Dental Association offers further protection in that if the impossible does seem to be happening, you can have the dentist send copies of your records, x-rays, models, etc. to a board of highly competent dental consultants (experts in these matters) who will evaluate the diagnosis, treatment, results, and costs of treatment.
You will receive a written opinion from the board of consultants as to the circumstances of your overall treatment. You can even ask for an opinion before the treatment starts, if you would like a "second opinion", or verification before proceeding with any dental treatment.
So...for the first time in dental history you will enjoy the benefit of having a qualified "watch dog"' to protect you against unnecessary or fraudulent treatment or being over charged.
You can rest assured that each incident will be thoroughly investigated and reported on... in writing if you so desire. If any dentist who has been certified by PDA does not handle any situation to the mutual satisfaction of both the patient and the board of consultants, that dentist's name will be immediately removed from the list of dentists certified by PDA.
The dentist has been giving the public a lot of six month checkup's over the years... now for the first time the dentist will also be getting a check-up...on "quality", on "fees", and on "caring". If you want your friends or family to enjoy this New Protection encourage them to join the People's Dental Association.
If you know and have dealt with a dentist who has the "right stuff", then send in a letter of recommendation to PDA and the dentist will be contacted, interviewed, evaluated, and possibly certified.
Any other ideas that you may have that you think would be valuable to this new endeavor, be sure to send them in or call...we look forward to any and all suggestions that will help people enjoy:
The first task at hand is to find out what the public really wants. That's where YOU come in. Your input is desperately needed. Any thoughts that you have are welcomed...any ideas you have need to be a part of the PDA.
As an example, does the public really want quality care from a dentist? (assuming that dental treatment is necessary...the old way). If you have personally ever had a complaint against a dentist...you already know that it's almost impossible to be heard in any fashion. Who do you complain to: the local dental society? the State Board of Dentistry? All run by dentists, right? Did you get fair treatment regarding your complaint? Of course not!
The PDA has researched this matter...ln the one hundred year history of so called peer review of dentists in this country, NO dentist has ever been found guilty of extracting teeth that "Could have been saved"! And yet one dentist we interviewed bragged of doing three million extractions in his lifetime.
The American Dental Association is one of the ten most powerful lobbying groups in the country. What do they lobby for: lower dental fees? More preventive type dental care? Or to protect the financial interests of its members?
That's why we need your help. Until now, before the PDA, no one, no organization offered a cohesive force to defend the rights of the public when it comes to receiving proper treatment from a dentist. The only viable recourse was an individual lawsuit, which was out of the question for most folks. So they just suffered, paid the bill, and became the loser.
The PDA and its consultants NOW offer for the first time, an alternative to "suffering in silence". IF, as this EXAMPLE shows, this is something the public wants...then PDA will make it a top priority item. If not, then please give us your input, so we know what to concentrate on. Write to us, call us, send us clippings or articles. The PDA promises to consider each and every suggestion...We will leave no stones unturned! Let's hear from you.
Now please think of a cavity in a tooth, or inflamed bleeding gums... no way for them to heal, right? But suppose that no infection existed in the saliva, or in and around the gums, then what?...They heal, and that's a fact, without benefit of an expensive dentist.
Sound strange? You don't believe it. Well, read on...
In the fall of 1977 a symposium was held in Ann Arbor, Michigan. In attendance were the worlds greatest brains in the field of dental disease. For days these select members of dental intelligencia challenged the problems of rotten teeth and pyorrhea. After exhaustive deliberations, they published two extensive reports. All of the current facts were in; here's what they said:
Instead of always fill, fill, fill, Dr. Leon M. Silverstone of the University of Iowa said, "cavities can be arrested by remineralization."
Now what dentist in your town has suggested that you help yourself to cause your cavities to heal up? None, right? But he or she is always ready to recommend drilling, filling, and billing, right?
To add insult to injury, the dental intell igencia further agreed that areas that heal up are almost totally resistive to any future decay2...can never be drilled for money.
Speaking of money, by the way... it is my professional opinion that over 90 % of all dental x-rays are taken more for economic benefit of the dentist than for any practical benefit of the patient. In fact, the dental intelligencia at their world conference reported: (page 59 of report number 1) "because of lesion geometry (shape of cavities) and superimposition of other calcific structures, radiographs (x-rays) do not accurately display lesions" (cavities)... as reported by Dr. Koulourides, the same gentleman who reported on how cavities heal. The logical conclusion is: Do not depend on dental x-rays to determine the extent of decay, not to mention the risk of radiation exposure.
Dr. Koulourides concluded: (page 60) "therapy for lesion con solidation (healing of cavities) offers a new challenge to the practitioner." You bet your boots, Dr. Koulourides, but the question is...when will they tell the public about it?
The unforeseen danger goes on... Decay, the dental wizards concluded, is a process where the outer layer of the tooth remains fairly hard while the deeper layers actually soften up much more. This was discovered by Dr. W.D. Miller in 1905 (page 69 of first report) and is generally accepted by the profession. Why then do dentists insist on poking at early decayed areas with sharp instruments called explorers? Left alone, many of these areas could be healed up, but with the surface destroyed by the dentist's "pick", then for sure they need fillings($$$). Get it?
How does this all relate to the problems of bad gums...the same. This is all correctable, too, with proper oral ecology. The most respected Journal in the field of gum problems, The Journal of Clinical Periodontology (3:38 1976) has reported that gums heal, bone grows back, teeth tighted up...all when the proper conditions are encouraged. (Please read the Oramedics International pamphlet on the Water Tip.)"
Is this all for real? Let's see how our world's leaders in dental disease prevention wound up their several day meeting.
A report of a study (page 55) at the University of Alabama conclusively found that when saliva tests showed low bacterial invasion and plaque scores were low that: "under these conditions the regimen approaches 100% effectiveness of caries prevention."
Now is the time for you and your family to start enjoying the benefits of these new discoveries. Contact us at Oramedics International for further information of how these new discoveries can become a part of your life.

"You can talk about stopping one disease and people accept it," Michigan dentist Dr. Robert O. Nara says. But when it comes to dental disease, "people seem to have a feeling that if you've got a hole in your tooth, it's there forever."
"People have been taught that preventive dentistry is a toothbrush and floss." If told otherwise, their "minds shut off."
Nara and his wife, Ruth, were in the area last week to make contacts with local dentists regarding the new consumer protection group, the People's Dental Association, to visit Mrs. Nara's parents in Verona, and to participate in a Washington D.C. health expo over the weekend.
The PDA promotes self-help dentistry, disseminates honest information the public needs to know about teeth and dental health and refers its members to "top notch practitioners who perform honest high quality care" and who generally charge more modest fees, according to Nara, its chief consultant.
This organization. he adds, is founded on the principle that dental patients should expect to enjoy a mouthful of healthy teeth for life and if they do require dental care, they are entitled to the best quality at moderately low cost.
A dentist certified by the PDA is obligated to do right by his patients, giving people what they want: "A better shake from dentistry," Nara says.
The founder of Oramedics International, a home care, self help program designed to improve a person's oral ecology, Nara says: "Teeth will heal and I can remineralize them. One hundred percent of all dental disease is preventable."
Often his claims are met with accusations of quackery, Nara notes. Yet, he maintains (and has maintained for 25 years) that with proper cleaning methods, a person can be dental and gum disease free.
He states that about 90 percent of all root canals performed in this country are unnecessary.
In fact, Nara has told his Houghton, Mich., patients that if they follow his program and cavities still appear, he will fill them free.
"In 25 years, I never fixed a free cavity."
There are gels which retard plaque and rinses which remineralize teeth, Nara says. Also, he designed a lightly-waxed dental flossing tape for use between teeth. An individual's saliva sample is analyzed and a cleaning program is determined for him.
Nara says his cleaning methods, when properly executed, control the cause of cavities and gum tissue disease -- toxins and acids produced by bacteria left in the mouth after improper cleaning. An individual's program costs less than the price of one filling, Nara says.
Nara had his license to practice dentistry suspended for 15 months in 1978 because of efforts to educate the public on preventive dental care -- "treating the symptom rather than the cause of dental disease."
Nara's two-line advertisement in the Houghton (pop. 4,000) Yellow Pages read that he specializes in Oramedics for "people with teeth who want to keep them." Charges brought against him by the State Board of Dentistry resulted in his being found guilty of "deceptive, misleading if not fraudulent advertising."
Expressing his puzzlement over the "fraudulent" term. Nara was told by the assistant' attorney general that if he "got smart about it," the suspension period would be increased.
Nara brought an $11 million suit against those who suspended his license. After five years of hearings, depositions and appeals, Nara left his attorneys behind in the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals in Cincinnati because their fees were too high and represented himself in the United States Supreme Court.
The end result was the dropping of charges against Nara by the state board, the judge dismissed Nara's lawsuit against the license suspenders and Michigan Law changed so that Nara could legally advertise Oramedics.
Despite the controversy, difficulties, penalties and labels involved in Nara's fight for preventive dentistry, he says his beliefs are strong that he is right.
Nara says he feels God designed the human body to last a lifetime, providing proper care has been taken and no catastrophic or uncontrollable circumstances arise. He expresses doubt that the teeth would be an exception.
He uses the healing of broken bones, cuts and scrapes, and the body's ability to fight infection and force "foreign bodies" such as splinters to the skin's surface as examples of the body's capabilities.
Nara has appeared on the Phil Donahue Show, was featured in Mother Earth News and, in January, spoke at the National Health Federation convention in Pasadena, Calif. A tape was made of the two talks Nara gave at the latter: "How to Eliminate All Dental Bills" and "Teeth Can Heal."
Nara also has written the books, "Money By the Mouthful," telling what's wrong with the dental profession and how to take charge of one's oral health, and "How to Become Dentally Self-Sufficient," a self-help guide to saving money while "enjoying never-before-experienced freedom from cavities and gum problems."
